Music has always been an integral part of Ranga R Kanapathy right from the days when he used to accompany his school band. The innate talents and love for music took a proper shape when he joined Late Music Director M.B.Srinivas group. With him he has taken part in many Chennai Doordarshan programs.

He has also accompanied Music Director Dr. Vijay Bhaskar in many stages to play percussion instruments. He has credit of performing “Percussion Night - 2003” with Yella Venkateshwara Rao (one of the noted, and among the very few present masters in Mridangam, and a Guinness record holder) at California-USA

He was Member of Vivekananda College and Anna University Music Bands and has played for several cultural programs throughout Tamil Nadu. He was part of Chennai Music Band - Melody Makers, Innisai & Shruthi – Band from Bay Area and a Key Member of Bay Area Fame SURABHEE.

Ranga is also a seasoned actor and has credits of acting for some of the TV Serials for Karnataka Doordarshan (Kannada Version of Nam Kudumbham), "Tholaindhu Ponavarghal" (A TV Serial by Film Students) for DD Chennai. He was appreciated by renowned Actors Kalaimamani Rajesh, ThalaiVaasal Vijay and Nasser for his acting talents. He has dubbed his voice for different TV artistes.

He plays most of the Percussion Instruments like Drums, Octo-Pads, Timpani, Triple Congo, Bongo and etc...
